Digifit Updates App and Launches New iPhone Accessories

Digifit is a company that has a lot of different accessories for the iPhone. The company also has a cool app that will interface with the iPhone and other fitness gear to let you see things like heart rate, speed, and lots more while you workout. Kingston Launches 16GB microSDHC Class 10 Card

Kingston has announced the addition of a new and speedy microSDHC card to its storage line up. The card will be perfect for use on camcorders that need fast write speeds and it can be ordered with or without a SD card adapter to allow it to be used directly in your notebook or other SD card device.

Valve Updates Steam Voice Communication Quality Using Skype SILK

Valve has announced that it has now released a new update to its Steam voice communication service that improves the quality of the voice technology within Steam.

Steam’s voice chat system now uses the SILK audio codec, developed and used by Skype. The SILK technology provides a greatly improved voice quality compared to Steam’s previous voice technology, but does add a little more to the bandwidth. The old system used around 15kbps of bandwidth and now the SILK voice system uses anything between 8 and 30 kbps.

Chumby8 Widget Display Now Available To Pre-Order

The chumby8 desktop widget display which is an 8 inch 800 x 600 display that has been created by Chumby to be used to display a variety of widgets from its 1,500 strong library of available widgets.

Together with its touchscreen the Chumby8 is powered by a 800MHz Marvell ARMADA 166 processor with 128MB of RAM. Storage is supplied via a 2GB SD card that can be upgraded. With connectivity being provided via Wi-Fi b/g

HTC Flyer WiFi Tablet Headed To Best Buy

Yesterday HTC announced their latest tablet, the HTC EVO View 4G, which is a WiMAX enabled version of the HTC Flyer Android tablet that was announced last month.

Now Best Buy has announced that they will start selling the HTC Flyer WiFi Android tablet in the spring, as a reminder the HTC Flyer comes with a 7 inch touchscreen display which features a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels.

Casio Unveils Bluetooth G-Shock Watch

Casio has unveiled its latest G-Shock watch creation, which now includes Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, and has been designed to be used with the new Bluetooth profile 4.0 mobile phones that will be arriving shortly.

Once connected to your new Bluetooth 4.0 mobile the G-Shock watch will then be able to notify you of incoming calls, email messages and SMS messages. Together with a new finder function that allows you to start the vibration action on your mobile phone by pressing a button on your G-Shock watch. As long as the phone is within the 2-5m range of Bluetooth 4.0.

The new G-Shock weighs in at 65g and is water resistant to 20 Bar. Its communications include 128-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) and a 1mbps data transfer rate.

Chromium Task Force Assembled To Reduce Chrome Distribution Size

Since its first release back in May 2009 Google’s Chrome has steadily grown from a 9MB distribution up to a 26.2MB release for the Google Chrome release on March 3 2011. Due to numerous additions to Chrome such as the internal Flash player, PDF reader and sync engine.

Now Google is assembling a task force to look at reducing the the size of Chrome distribution binaries, and posted a article on the Chromium-dev forum.

Head Of Mac OS X Bertrand Serlet Leaving Apple

Bertrand Serlet has been the head of Apple’s Mac Software Engineering for a long time, he was the head of the software development at Apple ever since the developed Mac OS X and has worked with Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs for 22 year, and Apple has just announced that he is leaving the company.

Craig Federighi, who is Apple’s vice president of Mac Software Engineering will take over Serlet’s role at Apple, and he has been managing the Mac OS Software Engineering at Apple for the last two years.

Sony Unveils Pro NEX-FS100 Interchangeable Lens Camcorder

Sony has unveiled their new professional interchangeable lens camcorder the NEX-FS100 Super 35mm NXCAM camcorder which has been developed specifically as a digital motion camcorder. Designed to record video footage with shallow depth of field similar to that of a film camera.

The NEX-FS100UK is equipped with a large CMOS sensor equivalent in size to Super35mm film like that used in the PMW-F3. Together with the 35mm E-Mount interchangeable lens system that provides a wide variety of current and future E-mount lenses from various lens manufacturers such as : Sony Zeiss, Tamron, Sigma and Cosina, that are compatible with the NEX-FS100.

Using the new Connect View Card and Viewfinder App you can now connect your iPhone or iPod Touch over Bluetooth transforming your iOS device in to a live viewfinder to make sure you have your camera positioned perfectly before setting off.

Official HTC EVO 3D Video Released

Operation Flashpoint : Red River Teaser (Video)

Operation Flashpoint: Red River is the upcoming first person shooter sequel to Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising and Codemasters have just released a new narrative teaser video, showing Marines fighting a huge PLA fighting force.

The game’s plot will concern a fictional conflict in Tajikistan in 2013, during a civil war that breaks out, the US Marine Corps are called in to quell the conflict. In the game players will be able to choose between four classes of Marines to play as, rifleman, grenadier, scout and automatic rifleman, each with their own weapons and abilities.

Visioneer Mobility Wireless Mobile Scanner

Japanese College Kids Build Their Own Exoskeleton Frame

Since exoskeletons are all the rage these days (defense contractors should be reading this), it comes as no surprise that a new find will elicit a generous amount of oohs and aahs. Oohs and aahs indeed, considering the picture below was made by engineering students. It’s a very basic build involving no servomechanics, just a lightweight aluminum frame that allows the wearer to move with ease.

Valve Developing Steam For iOS And Android Devices?

Launching back in May of 2010 Steam finally arrived on mac machines, much to the delight of Mac gamers worldwide. Now apparently Valve is looking to bring its Steam service to iOS and Android devices according to a gamer who recently visited Valve’s HQ.

During the gamers visit Valve’s Gabe Newell suggested that Valve were looking to expanding Steam on to iOS and Android devices in the future, which is great news for gamers.

Apple To Release 2011 iMac’s In May?

Apple’s iMac is due for an update later this year, the current iMac models were announced back in July of 2010, so we should expect to see the 2011 iMac’s launching in July of 2011.

It turns out that we may see the new 2011 iMac’s a little earlier this year, according to CNet’s Brian Tong who recently announced on Twitter that we could see the new iMac’s hitting at the end of April or beginning of May.

YouTube Cloud Editor Now Fixes Shakey Videos With Stabilisation Feature

YouTube has now added new image stabilisation technology to its cloud based editor to help reduce and remove the shake you sometimes get on videos take on a camcorder which doesn’t already have stabilisation technology installed.

You can now take advantage of this feature when you upload and video to the cloud editor and with a click of one button your shaky video footage will be transformed in smooth seamless footage. Watch the examples after the jump.

YouTube has also added a new 3D feature to its cloud editor as well that allows you to combine two side-by-side videos into a 3D masterpiece.

Google Chrome Beta 11 Adds HTML5 Speech Input

Google has updated the beta version of Chrome to Chrome Beta 11.0696.16, and this latest version comes with two new updates to Chrome which include a HTML5 speech input API and GPU accelerated 3D CSS.

The new HTML5 speech input lets developers add the ability to transcribe voice to text in web apps, and it works by recording audio through your computers microphone, the audio is then sent to speech servers which transcript the audio into text.

Toshiba USB Powered Mobile Monitor

Toshiba have unveiled a new portable monitor they have created which is powered by just a USB port. The 14 inch monitor weighs less than 3 lbs and both power and video are provided to the display via a USB connection from a PC system.

The Toshiba portable USB display is equipped with a  1366 x 768 resolution capable of full 720p high definition images, but currently only supports 256,000 colours.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Photos And Specifications

Yesterday Samsung unveiled two new tablets in their Galaxy Tab range, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and the Galaxy Tab 10.1, and we have seen the Galaxy Tab 10.1 before, but now we have some more photos and specifications on this new Android tablet.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 is ultra thin measuring in at just 8.6mm thick and it is also pretty light, weighing in at just 595g, it comes with the tablet version of Google’s mobile OS, Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

Google Patents Its ‘Doodles’

Google’s logo doodles that change on a daily basis keep visitors to the search site entertained with informative facts and creative images. We have even featured a number of Google’s more interesting Doodles here on Geeky Gadgets, such as the Jules Verne Doodle and Google’s Doodle Is A Msytery.

Well today Google has finally sealed a patent on its doodles after first applying over 10 years ago. The patent named Systems and Methods for Enticing Users to Access a Web Site credits Google co-founder Sergey Brin as the sole inventor and covers modifying a companies logo. i.e. by adding a a turkey for Thanksgiving’ or ‘a leprechaun’s pot of gold for Saint Patrick’s Day.’

Apple’s Steve Jobs To Answer Questions In iTunes Antitrust Case

We told you a while back that Apple was facing an Antitrust enquiry over iTunes, and now Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs has been ordered to answer questions relating to the antitrust enquiry over Apple’s iTunes.

The complaint was filed back in 2005, and the lawyers who filed it have just received permission to ask Steve Jobs limited questions relating to the enquiry, according to a Bloomberg report.

Sparrow 1.1 Mac Email Client Updated With IMAP Support And Priority Inbox

The alternative Mac email client that arrived in February was until this new update only able to sync to Gmail accounts. However with the Sparrow 1.1 release the email client can now sync with IMAP clients, together with a number of other interesting features.

The Gmail sync has now also been updated within the app to support Gmail’s ‘Priority Inbox’ feature. Other new features within  Sparrow include : multitouch gesture support, per-alias signatures, a formatting bar for drafting messages with rich text,  contact groups, and Gravatars for automatically displaying photos for message contacts.

Firefox 4 Reaches 5 Million Downloads In 24 Hours

Yesterday Mozilla released the final version of Firefox 4, and it seems that Mozilla’s latest browser is already popular, having now reached over 5 million downloads since it was released yesterday.

When Microsoft launched the new IE9 recently, they reported that it had reached a total of 2.3 million downloads in the first 24 hours, and it looks like Mozilla’s Firefox has doubled IE9′s downloads for the first 24 hours.

The $8 Million iPad 2

We have featured quite a few expensive gadget here at Geeky Gadgets, usually they are covered in gold and diamonds, and the latest one is the new iPad 2, which has been created by Stuart Hughes, and is called the iPad 2 Gold History Edition.

As the name suggests, this iPad 2 is covered in 24ct gold, and features 12.5 cts of flawless diamonds and 53 individually set gems, that’s not all it also features the front frame which is made from the worlds oldest rock ammolite, plus there are some dinosaur bones from a T-Rex thrown in for good measure.

Microsoft Releases Copy And Paste Windows Phone 7 Update

The last thing we heard about the new copy and past update for Windows Phone 7 was that it would be available some time near the end of March, good news if you are a Windows Phone 7 users as Microsoft has started rolling out the latest update.

The update for Windows Phone 7 is being rolled out at the moment, although it looks like the update is being staggered throughout the world, and when the update is ready for your device you will receive a message on your phone.

Acer Iconia Tab A501 Headed To AT&T

US mobile operator AT&T has announced that they will be launching a new Android tablet this summer, the Acer Iconia Tab A501, which is Acer’s first 4G tablet.

The Acer Iconia Tab A501 features a 10.1 inch touchscreen display, plus a dual core 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 250 processor, and it will come with Google’s tablet version of Android, Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

Apple TV 4.2.1 Update Fixes Flickering Screen

We told you recently that some Apple TV users were experiencing a flickering screen after the recent update, Apple has now released a new version of its Apple TV software, version 4.2.1 which is designed to fix the problem.

The update also fixes some other issues, which include a problem with wake from sleep where the Apple TV would not wake up, and also the issue with audio where it could not be heard on some TVs after switching inputs.

HTC EVO View 4G Android Tablet Gets Official

As well as announcing the new HTC EVO 3D, HTC also announced a new tablet which is headed to Sprint, the HTC EVO View 4G, which is basically a WiMAX  version of the HTC Flyer tablet that we saw previously.

The HTC EVO View 4G features a 7 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels, there are two cameras a five megapixel one on the back and a 1.3 megapixel camera on the front.

Yesterday a new smartphone from HTC appeared on Sprint website, and now we have full details on this new Android device from HTC, the HTC EVO 3D.

The HTC EVO 3D features a 4.3 inch qHD display, and processing is provided by a dual core 1.2GHz processor, it also features a dual 5 megapixel camera on the back which is capable of taking standard photos in a five megapixel resolution and 3D photos in a two megapixel resolution.
